At our water treatment facility located at 388 Koontz Rd, Lexington, NC, near Yadkin College, the filter wash water flows into a gravity thickener to concentrate the sludge. Pumps pull the sludge from the bottom of the thickener and discharge to a mechanical screw press that removes the water and produces cake with a 25-35% solids content. A contractor utilizes the cake for agricultural land application.
The water removed by the screw press as well as the sediment from the settling basins flow into two wastewater ponds where final solids removal is completed. This decant water is then recycled into our raw water reservoirs or returned to the Yadkin River.
During the calendar year of 2022, there were no violations of any permit conditions, environment regulations, or environmental laws.
